I was at a media event the other day and I couldn’t help but notice that everyone seemed a bit flat, which is most unusual when free booze is involved. I guess it’s understandable, with the alarming number of recent job cuts by Fairfax and News Corp, and the slow decline of revenue generated by traditional media advertising, it’s not surprising.

For a brand to be loved in today’s world it has to be a living entity much like ourselves.
Perhaps it is the malady brought on by watching shows like ‘Law & Order’ which has so caused business to literally swamp itself in litigation, but it seems to me that we are no longer responsible for ourselves and we need someone to blame for our own stupidity.
These days it is imperative that recruitment is included under a company’s marketing umbrella. Gaining and retaining the ‘right’ staff is an art and one that takes strategy and creativity. The labor market is demanding advertisements and practices that will reach out and grab the people who will fit harmoniously within an organisation.

Packaging for me is a necessary evil. We need it to protect the goods we buy whilst they are being shipped and stored and to keep multiple parts together. However most of the time, as soon as we have the product home the packaging goes straight in the bin. This not only adds to landfill but consumes excessive resources whilst it’s being produced.
Every now and again advertising produces one of those really special moments which makes you feel you haven’t left the show that you were watching and entered the ad break. Those are usually the genius commercials which have been so finely crafted that the quality and the story have formed the perfect segue from entertainment to advertising.
