In the midst of ‘writer’s block’ I am suddenly and mercifully awakened by the joyous chorus of a little boy’s voice. It was excited, impatient and innocent. The words rolled flawlessly into one long gasping parade of sentences as he provided our ‘front of house’ personnel with a recitation so full of emphasis and enthusiasm I feared he might explode.

I think it’s human nature to play. To fiddle. To explore. I mean since the dawn of time we’ve been picking and poking everything to try and get a better understanding of it. So it stands to reason that we are still curious creatures then…yes?
Some bright spark from the International Monetary Fund made a statement which has to go down as a ‘flash of the bleeding obvious’. He stated, that the current financial malaise is being driven by a “global lack of confidence”. From a body which is supposed to advise on future financial likelyhoods, that has to go down as the master of all understatements.

Marketing is what I choose to call ‘everlasting’. In the good times it’s required to keep you on top; in the worst times it’s required to keep you from falling out of the bottom. While business coaches deliver their eulogies as to what to do and economists tell us what’s going wrong and how bad it’s likely to be, our profession is left to fight the good fight and win back the lost yards. People perceive that, like warriors of the past, we will emerge bloodied and battered with a ‘Heineken’ in one hand and Hors D’Oeuvres in the other.
